Healing Creatively

The journey of self exploration and healing can be difficult. I am available to support you as you navigate your process. As a creative arts therapist, specializing in body based therapy, I offer an additional perspective as I integrate traditional verbal psychotherapy with the body, which is one of our greatest resources. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self esteem, burn out, body image or relationship issues, together, we will find ways of talking and moving towards self acceptance, ways of relating, self compassion and coping skills that work for you.

 

The Practice

My clinical perspective integrates traditional verbal therapy with dance/movement therapy and other somatic, intuitive practices such as tapping, mindful meditation and authentic movement, using a psychodynamic approach. I invite clients to explore the mind/body connection as that is where all of our human experiences, emotions and memories are held. Cultivating a relationship with your body, the sensations that arise and your creative side can often assist in a clearer understanding of behaviors and patterns as well as open additional ways of relating to others, being curious, utilizing coping skills and increasing insight and awareness.

Clients are able to start to find safety by creating new experiences in the body and calming the nervous system. This can take the shape of movement exploration and other creative modalities such as breathing and relaxation techniques, body scans, guided imagery/meditation, sound healing, utilizing therapeutic card decks and jounraling. Listening, sensing and focusing on the internal messages that the body communicates takes practice and patience- it will also allow you to experience yourself in new more compassionate ways. Creating an emphatic, trusting relationship, allows me to assist in a client's path towards emotional health, body awareness, clarity and growth. Sometimes words are not enough, and I will help guide and support as we work together to find what works for you in your personal journey of healing.
